Moldova is located between Romania and Ukraine. It emerged as an independent republic following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, and in 2014 the Moldovan Government signed an Association Agreement with the EU. Moldova’s economy is relying heavily on agriculture. The country has already led a number of global technological advances, and it aimed to use the foreign direct investment generated by its CBI program launched in 2018 to power its progress across all sectors. Moldova previously offered one of the lowest-priced passport investment options in Europe through its Citizenship by Investment program (MCBI). However, in 2020, the parliament repealed the amendments to Moldova’s citizenship law that permitted CBI.
